8. Mount Everest Is Not the Tallest Mountain

 While Mount Everest has the highest altitude above sea level at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet), the tallest mountain when measured from base to peak is Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Mauna Kea rises over 10,000 meters (33,000 feet) from its base on the ocean floor. This distinction highlights different ways of measuring mountains and provides a new perspective on geographical records.
